Former state Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith announces run for Florida Senate

Standing proudly in front of city hall with over a hundred of his supporters, Carlos Guillermo Smith launched his campaign for state senate on Saturday.

Smith, the 42-year-old former state representative, announced on Friday he would be running in the 2024 election for Florida State Senate District 17. Smith was the first LGBTQ Latino lawmaker in the Florida House and is a first-generation American, according to his campaign.

U.S. Representatives advise students on future purchases for clean energy

U.S. Rep. Darren Soto told students on Wednesday that even if they can’t afford a clean energy purchase now, they most likely will be making those choices in the future.

Soto was one of three members of the U.S. House of Representatives part of the Future Forum Caucus to visit UCF to explain the benefits and importance of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. As of Jan. 1, consumers of clean energy purchases qualify for tax credits until 2032, according to the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
